Fall for dance with the fresh, dynamic and forward-thinking, Gibney Dance! The New York-based company has a rigorous history as a contemporary dance company that pushes boundaries, challenges perception and empowers its dancers as both artists and activists on and off the stage. Under the Artistic Direction of Case Western Reserve University alumna Gina Gibney, who was named “One of the Most Influential People in Dance Today” by Dance Magazine, the company has grown since its inception in 1991 to include exquisite dancers performing an array of works by some of the most in-demand choreographers today.
The Akron performance will include a new work, “Oh Courage,” by the widely popular, Tony Award-winning choreographer Sonya Tayeh of So You Think You Can Dance fame. The piece celebrates change and truth, with music by The Bengsons alongside the Midwest premiere of Johan Inger’s “Bliss,” with music by American Jazz legend Keith Jarret and an energetic dynamic trio titled “Lusus Naturae” choreographed by Dance Magazine featured Cover Artist, Rena Butler !
Don’t miss your chance to see the impeccable dancers take the stage, each with amazing contemporary technique, in works that explore the connections between the rigorous physicality of contemporary dance alongside humanistic storytelling.
