Dominic Moore-Dunson: Black by Nature

Rooted in Moore‑Dunson’s exploration of healing and belonging in nature as a Black man, Black by Nature reimagines the relationship between identity and the outdoor world. The work creates space for reflection, freedom, and connection, guided by an original, jazz‑influenced score performed live by an acoustic ensemble of guitar, saxophone, trumpet, upright bass, and hand percussion. As music drifts through the trees and trails, the landscape becomes a living soundscape where history, improvisation, modern dance, and place converge.

Join us for an immersive dance-theatre experience along the trails of Summit County Metro Parks in this world premiere commissioned by DANCECleveland. With two performance locations suited to different hiking levels, Black by Nature offers the opportunity for audiences of all abilities to experience this powerful journey:

• September 19: Advanced‑level hike and performance
• September 26: Beginner‑level hike and performance

Golf cart rides will be available by request during September 26 performances for those who need assistance on the trail. With options designed for different mobility levels, audiences of all abilities are welcome to experience this unforgettable journey.
