DANCECleveland Cancels Remaining Performances in 2020-2021 Season

CLEVELAND (December 1, 2020) – DANCECleveland is announcing the cancellation of the remaining three performances in their 2020-2021 Season of Dance. Canceled engagements include Ronald K. Brown, scheduled for February 6, 2021, in the Ohio Theatre, Caleb Teicher & Conrad Tao on March 13, 2021 in the Allen Theatre, and Pam Tanowitz Dance with Simone Dinnerstein, scheduled for April 24, 2021, in the Ohio Theatre. The difficult decision to cancel these performances was made following the recommendations of health experts and Governor Mike DeWine to help minimize the spread of COVID-19 (coronavirus). In addition to the performances, in-person masterclasses and other community engagement activities have also been canceled. All DANCECleveland subscribers and ticket holders will be notified of the cancellation and given a refund.

“With COVID continuing to impact every aspect of our lives, it is necessary, but none the less unfortunate, to have to cancel these final three performances on the season. We want to, first and foremost, ensure the health and safety of DANCECleveland’s patrons, employees, volunteers stage crew, and the dancers from each of these dance companies.” Pam Young, Executive Director of DANCECleveland, said. “We check in regularly with each of the dance companies, and for nearly all of them, in-person rehearsals have been on hold since March making touring impossible at this time. We care deeply about making sure we are doing everything we can to keep our community and the dance companies we love healthy”.

DANCECleveland remains optimistic that in-person performances will resume in the 2021-22 and, in that spirit, have begun curating the new season. For the remainder of the 2020-21 season DANCECleveland is continuing to explore a range of innovative ideas, including virtual offerings and outdoor performances. The organization has recently videotaped its entire Read To Learn…Dance To Move program for distribution to schools and is launching a feasibility study to explore the opportunity and viability of offering technical residencies for dance companies.

DANCECleveland, a Cleveland, Ohio based non-profit, is one of a handful of presenters in the nation that is dedicated solely to the presentation of modern and contemporary dance. The centerpiece of the organization’s programming is its annual performance series. The performances are surrounded by an array of educational outreach events including artist-run master classes, residency programs, student matinees, pre-performance lectures and post-performance Q&A sessions, designed both to break artistic boundaries and provide community access to the dance aesthetic and dance luminaries that DANCECleveland brings to Northeast Ohio.

DANCECleveland is generously funded by Cuyahoga County residents through Cuyahoga Arts and Culture.

The Ohio Arts Council helped fund DANCECleveland with state tax dollars to encourage economic growth, educational excellence and cultural enrichment for all Ohioans.
