11:30- 12:45 in the Playhouse Square Plaza. Djapo Cultural Arts Institute will immerse you in a lively high spirited introduction to West African folklore and culture through traditional dance forms with the addition of live drumming with the Djembe Orchestra. Using adaptive dance approaches for dancers with mobility differences, Sara will participate in and demonstrate seated movement adaptations for Stepping, African, and Popular Dances classes.
About the Instructors:
Djapo Cultural Arts Institute is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to the preservation of traditional art, music, dance, song, history and folklore of Africa and throughout the diaspora.
About The Adaptive Movement Instructor:
Sara Lawrence-Sucato is a Cleveland, Ohio based dance teaching and movement artist.
She currently serves as Director of Education for The Dancing Wheels Company & School
where she combines the roles of Director of Outreach & Community Engagement and
School Coordinator, oversees the design and implementation of a company trainee
program, and teaches physically integrated dance technique in residencies, workshops, and
master classes.
